The 2 Day Akagera Wildlife Safari is tailored for travelers who enjoy wildlife but have a minimum budget. Akagera National Park is located along the eastern border of Rwanda, where the typically hilly countryside gives way to the savannas of the Great Rift Valley. Dominated by lakes, swamps and marshland, the area boasts a huge compliment of nature and wildlife that cannot be found elsewhere in the country.It is a unique habitat and home to big game, primates, birds, fish and many aquatic animal and plant species.
Akagera National Park is located in the north east of Rwanda along the border with Tanzania and its 1,122 sq km in size. The park derives its name after the Akagera River that flows along its eastern boundary and feeds into a labyrinth of lakes of which the largest is Lake Ihema. The forest fringed lakes, papyrus swamps, savannah plains and rolling highlands combine to make Akagera amongst the most scenic of reserves anywhere in Africa. It has exceptional levels of biodiversity and forms the largest protected wetland in central Africa.

Day 1: – Transfer to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, proceed with your Akagera Wildlife Safari where you will enjoy a scenic drive to Akagera National Park passing through Rwanda’s phenomenal landscapes and living lifestyles and on arrival at the hotel you can opt for a quick rest.The drive from Kigali to Akagera National Park lasts fro 2-3 hours giving you some time to rendezvous as you wait for your afternoon game drive.
After lunch, proceed with a southern game drive alongside the Lake Ihema circuit with plenty of animals to be viewed including the Big ‘five’ Game elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles and many other mammal species. Akagera is also known as one of the most scenic savannas in East Africa where the game drive provides you with the opportunity to view gentle hills blending beautifully with lowland swamps and water bodies.

Day 2: Morning game drive and Transfer to Kigali
Early morning game drive starts with a spectacular sunrise and early morning bird songs. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and landscape through the northern circuit where you will see hippos, crocodiles and even more wildlife than on the lake circuit and otther many large plains game species as well as species restricted to the papyrus swamps such as the Sitatunga and the sought-after Shoebill Stork. Notable plains game include elephant, buffalo, topi, zebra, waterbuck, roan antelope and eland. Other antelope are duiker, oribi, bohor reedbuck, klipspringer, bushbuck and impala. Of the primates, olive baboons, vervets and the secretive blue monkey are seen during the day, with bushbabies often seen on night drives.
