6 Days Gorilla Trekking & Rwanda Chimpanzee Safari

Day 1:Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After an early breakfast transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park on your Gorilla Trekking & Rwanda Chimpanzee Safari and make stops at local markets, the traditional palace in Nyanza, visit the Botanical Gardens and the cultural museum. Drives through the  green fields of tea scattered across the hillsides and the small unique wooden houses surrounding Nyungwe Forest.

Nyungwe National Park is 4-5 hours drive from Kigali with lunch en route. Nyungwe forest is the oldest and largest rain forest in East Africa. Arrive in the park in the evening and check into your lodge for relaxation, dinner.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park

Have an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing before your start your Gorilla Trekking and Rwanda Chimpanzee Safari. You will the walk into in the company of a park ranger and head for Chimpanzee trekking. Enjoy chimps viewing; as they swing from tree to tree, branch to branch and the little ones feeding on fruits. Follow them from nest to nest.

Enjoy a Canopy walk in the forest before exiting it, This is a rewarding and a wonderful experience where your enjoy a walk that is 60m long and 90m off the forest floor, you will see birds flying over the forest and enjoy the cool breeze from above.Later return to the lodge for an overnight and reflect on the fun filled day with the Chimpanzees.

Day 3: Nature Walk in Nyungwe Forest National Park

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the Headquarters of Nyungwe Forest National Park where you will be allocated. On this nature walk search for the largest groups of colobus – enjoy viewing many monkeys in large groups and different bird species including the Rwenzori Turaco. After the walk, return and rendezvous at the lodge as you enjoy the beauty scenaries around the lodge and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park Via Lake Kivu

Early in the morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National park through  via Gisenyi and visit Lake Kivu, enjoying the  breeze at the shores, and enjoy an en-route lunch and then return on the road to Ruhengeri. Drive north to Kinigi via Ruhengeri as you enjoy the rolling hills to Volcanoes National Park. This drive is about 6 hours.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

With an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for gorilla briefing on the do’s and dont’s before venturing into this gigantic forest. The time spent gorilla tracking is unpredictable but it varies from 2-8 hours before an encounter with the family of these gentle creatures as their location varies from where they spent the night  and their location the previous day. Enjoy one hour in the company of a gorilla family as you watch and capture this memorable experience as they go about their day to day activities.

Depending on the time the gorilla trekking will end, you can decide to have a fun filled  afternoon after lunch by taking a cultural walk to Iby’iwachu Cultural Village-a Non-Profit umbrella organization that aims at improving the lives of reformed poachers and communities as you enjoy the Kinyarwanda traditions including the Intore dance, traditional ceremonies and a guided community walk.

Day 6: Transfer to Kigali

After breakfast,you will be transferred to Kigali where you will enjoy a Kigali city tour including the National Museum and Genocide memorial center that tales of the happenings of the massive deaths in April 1994, the time you spend on your city tour depends on your outbound flight. Later  connect for your flight back home.
